Mummy Speech Therapy Craft for Halloween

Mummy Craft

This adorable mummy craft is quick, easy, and effective for getting high trials when treating speech sound disorders, working on language skills such as following directions, sequencing, vocabulary, expanding MLU, and more! In this quick video tutorial, you can see all you need is tape (check out this fun glitter tape option), paper, and scissors! Below are some ideas to target various speech and language goals. This is not an exhaustive list, simply a few examples to get your brain thinking creatively!

Vocabulary:

  • instructional verbs: cut, tape, glue, write, cover, trace
  • core vocab: on, off, big, little, more, done, help, put
  • describing words to describe what type of tape you're using (colors, texture, etc.), describe the paper, describe what the mummy looks like at the end

Following Directions and Sequencing:

  • Give the child directions to complete the craft
  • Create your own mummy first and take pictures of each step. Print them out and have the child use the pictures to sequence the steps of the craft. Then they can use those pictures as their visual directions to create their own!
  • Use this Following Directions Deck to help with these skills. Stay tuned for a Sequencing deck coming soon!

Expanding MLU:

  • "Put on" "I put on" "you put on" "put on the tape" "I put on the tape"
  • "More" "more tape" "need more" "need more tape" "I need more tape" "I want more tape"

Speech Sound Disorders:

  • Have the child product their target sound or word X amount of times (use our clickers to keep track!) before sticking a piece of tape on the mummy
  • Write the target word on the piece of tape and send their mummy home with them to practice their target words!
  • Need help choosing target words? Check out our SSD decks

Literacy:

  •  Write letters on the pieces of tape and have the child identify consonants and vowels, identify the letter names, and/or identify the sound(s) that letter can make
  • Write sight words or other words at the child's skill level on the pieces of tape for the child to decode, or have the child read a set amount of words or sentences before sticking a piece of tape on their mummy to get more practice in
  • Check out these literacy products to pair with this activity!
